The Production Elements

MAKEUP: Lots of eye bright eye shadows, lip sticks and blush were used to create the 80's feel and mood.

COSTUMES: Costumes were used to help support the 80's theme as well as fitting each different characters personalities. They effectively displayed the 80's genre.

VISUAL: The Visual screen was used in the background to add visual effects such as videos and images to compliment the performances

LIGHTING: Spotlights were used to point on the more significant actors in some scenes as well as coloured lights were used to help bright up the stage and support the theme of the 80's. The lighting made the set very interesting to look at.

SETS: The rubix cubes and lockers were the most significant items used in each scene. The backstage crew helped to set up each set for each separate scene effectively

My Role in the Musical

In the school production "Back To the 80s" I undertook a few roles including:
SPOTLIGHT: My job handling the spotlight required me to work with the lighting crew. I had to follow the script prompts to put the spotlight on the certain characters at specific times during each performance. This job was very simple but could be easily messed up if i wasn't paying proper attention. The spotlight was quite heavy and i was required to hold and move it allot.

BACKSTAGE: This job involved setting up the sets properly for the each Act and scene and making sure that correct props were on stage for each actor when they needed them. This job required allot of movement and thankfully no one was injured during the process. The job entailed of moving rubix cubes(boxes), desks, lockers and the blackboard on and off the set at the appropriate times. We had to use the sketches of the floor plans for each scene in the acts to distinguish what prop would go where on the stage.

I discovered many difficulties throughout the production:
- Communication: At time it became difficult to communicate with the backstage people on the other side of the stage due to the loud noise. We used allot of sign language, but this at times failed, although we had a runner who was able to go back and forth to help us to communicate more effectively.
- Arm Strain: Whilst working the spotlight i found it was very heavy and placed lots of strain on my left arm, which was the arm i was using to hold the heaviest part of the spotlight with.

Among these difficulties came a lot of success throughout the production.
-Teamwork: We worked great as a team in both the backstage and lighting area. There wasn't conflict at all really
-Learning experiences: I gained allot of knowledge about the entertainment industry which i could further use in later studies
-Successful Production: Everyone who worked on the set or backstage did their job to the best of their ability which meant the production was quite successful for everyone watching it.

The musical was a very fun experience for myself and i developed further knowledge about the entertainment industry, it also allowed me to work with friends and other people within my class i don't usually really work with.

Peer Evaluation

Task: Read another class members post about their role in the school musical. Write feedback on one persons page that you worked with or observed during the musical. Evaluate their work efforts, abilities and success.

A person who i believed did very well throughout the musical was Brie Small. She attended most practises and made a commitment to turn up to the performances. Brie and a few other members of our entertainment class worked well together, displaying effective teamwork abilities in the lighting department.

Brie worked the spotlight and did an excellent job. She made sure she wrote down prompts and timing into her copy of the script to ensure that the spotlight was correctly shone at the right time to make the show run smoothly.

Brie used a great use of communication to work together with myself and others in the lighting department. She helped me greatly with the spotlight during practices and performances nights. I believe she took her job seriously and did a fantastic job! Well done Brie!
